THE MINDY PROJECT - SEASON 2, EPISODE 3 - GOODBYE, LOVER!

Now, this episode is getting back to the flow that I am used to and welcome for the Mindy Project.

First of all, thank you for growing your character's hair to a more flattering length!

Alas, poor Mindy’s relationship, we knew it well.  And we knew it to be bad or at least “off”.  The duo finally said, “Adieu!” this episode because her boyfriend came back from Haiti and had a case of finding himself.  He came back to his church flock and said that because of Mindy he has decided to follow his inner desire to be a DJ.  Mindy was of course skeptical and unsupportive, until he rocked it at a big music event.

But obviously, things couldn’t be that simple.  As soon as Casey walked off from his triumph at the music festival and had Mindy feeling confident about his new career, he decided to “walk away”.  He said he didn’t connect and that he noticed that the venue could have been planned better.  So, he decided that he really wants to be an event planner.

Mindy could see the writing on the wall, especially when Casey was telling her one night that they could move to Texas. Now, Mindy had to say something at this point because in my mind, she is a successful and settled doctor.  She is not in any way suitable for a nomadic life.  Casey is obviously finding himself and he needs to commit to a career before he can commit to anyone.

So, Mindy basically explained how this wasn’t going to work and they broke up.

What’s strange about this turn-of-events is that Casey was always the seemingly more mature and together of the couple, so it was weird to see him being the one without direction and goofing off.

I thought that this episode was finally up-to-par with last season, in terms of Mindy’s character.  The Danny character is being written pretty well, but the other characters still need to get more love from the writers.  Ike Barinholtz needs more airtime and he is one of the writers.  Also, what are they going to do with that new nurse character?  She has some funny lines, but they could put her in more scenes to spice up the show.  As always, bring back the old Dr. Reed.  Where can this new storyline possibly go?

Well, thanks Mindy for getting back on the right track.  I am getting excited for the show again!
