La Pinata - The New Mexican Restaurant on the Block - The Update

There’s a new Mexican restaurant on the block and it’s called La Pinata.  It’s on the corner of 207th Street and Broadway.

Because it’s literally on the corner, the two corner walls are filled with floor to ceiling windows.  This view gives the diners full view of the bustling street and gorgeous sunlight streams in plentifully.  At night, the cityscape is just as amusing, especially when it snows and you feel nice and cozy in the comfortable banquette that lines one of the walls.  The rest of the restaurant has free standing tables which are lit with candles at night.  It could be the place for a very romantic dinner or a great business lunch.

Speaking of the day, there is a special of $6.95.  It has the usual Mexican favorites: burritos (above), quesadillas, tamales, chimichangas, tacos, tortas, nachos, enchiladas, and fajitas. It has the same offerings for vegetarians with fillings like mushrooms and spinach, mushrooms and corn, or black bean and guacamole.

I love the fajitas!  I had the chicken fajitas.  It was filled with peppers and onions.   The chicken was so tangy and moist!  I like to add cheese and their avocado dressing for a little extra spark.  I was so happy about the chicken fajitas that I went back a few nights later and had the mixed fajias:  chicken and steak! Yummy!

I added guacamole dressing, another guacamole whipped dressing, and some fried guacamole provided by the owner, Jorge.  Wow!

Fried Guacamole

Speaking of avocado, another tasty treat is the guacamole.  It works perfectly as an appetizer and as a fantastic  addition to any meal.  It’s so smooth and creamy!  You can have it mild or spicy.

They have different desserts, like tres leches cake and churros with chocolate. But another choice for a sweet finish or something sweet to drink during dinner would be the horchata.  I did not think I was a fan of rice drinks, but the owner persuaded me to try it.  It is an iced rice milk mixed with cinnamon.  It tastes like rice pudding in silky smooth liquid.  Delicious!

The owner surprised me with fried ice cream topped with a scrumptious and decadent strawberry sauce.  The tangy strawberry, sweet and velvety ice cream, and the crunchy bits of coating were a symphony in my mouth!  He told me that people could ask for chocolate topping or they could opt for no topping, if they want.

La Pinata also has other Mexican drinks in bottles for you to try.

They have many wonderful dishes and appetizers that should appeal to everyone whether you like chicken, pork, or beef.

La Pinata is well worth the visit to Inwood and it’s a great place to chill out after you finish your meal.  Magnifico!

Mindy Kaling's Model Mom

I read something recently that was very touching. I read that Mindy Kaling's late mother was a doctor.  If you watch the show The Mindy Project, Mindy's character is a doctor, too.  I am guessing that this is an ode  to her mother.  It's brought a little more depth and poignancy to a show that postures as a comedy with a little drama, but not a full-on dramedy. Great way to appreciate a role model.

Expanding My Blog's Content

Hello, Friends!

I just wanted to write a quick post on what is happening to my blog.  It started out as a gourmet blog in which I talk about food I like, make, or have found in other restaurants.

I am also adding a pop culture element.  When I first put "The Mindy Project" post online, I thought it might be a "one-off", you know, I just felt I wanted to write about something different.  Then I put on another and another, and you all wanted so much more.  I put on different pop culture posts about Alec Baldwin and Ricky Martin, and you all loved that, too.  So, if you are enjoying both types of offerings, then I will give you both - gourmet food and pop culture.  Also, remember, if you like my pop culture musings, then you will love my book series, Life of Bougie - Bougie in Korea and Bougie in New York by L.A. Calbert/Alexis I. Dragon on barnesandnoble.com.

If you have any comments about this expansion, please feel free to make them at this site.

Thanks,
